In the summer of 1863, the community of Gettysburg was swept up in the chaos of one of the largest battles of the Civil War. Before the battle took place, Gettysburg was similar to many other rural communities in south-central Pennsylvania. Afterwards, the town would forever be connected to the battle that shifted the tides of the Civil War.
