Are you looking for something fun to do this summer? Come and join the staff at George Rogers Clark National Historical Park (GRCNHP). The park staff invites children of all ages out to attend events focused on hands-on learning and fun!The Summer Junior Ranger Series consists of four different events, one every month, all dealing with different topics and interests. The first Junior Ranger Day, Three Forts Day, will be a two-day event focused on the three different forts built inside what is now GRCNHP. Meet re-enactors portraying French marines that were here in the French and Indian War, American militia, early French Voyageurs, among others.
Among the hands-on activities offered at this year’s Junior Ranger Day are learning how to make candles, playing 18th century games, weaving on a loom, and writing with quill and ink. In addition, kids can join with the militia and experience life on the frontier for a soldier. Junior Rangers can also discover how soldiers constructed forts using 18th century tools, make bread, decorate a Native American mat, and so much more!
This event will take place at the GRCNHP Visitor Center at 401 S. 2nd Street in Vincennes on Saturday June 22 from 10-4 PM EST and Sunday June 23 from 11 am-3 PM EST. All activities are free of charge. The next Junior Ranger Series event will take place on Saturday July 13. It is entitled “Archaeology Day” and will take place at GRCNHP from 1-4 PM EST.
