Visitors can watch multiple firework shows at once from the fort
NPS/CLaBarge
Join us at Fort Washington to celebrate the Fourth of July!
The historic fort will remain open until the end of the DC fireworks show. There will also be ranger-guided tours of the fort, an artillery demonstration and a brass band.
Visitor Center will be open from 9:00am to 7:00pm.
5:00, 6:00, 7:00: 15-minute Fort Talks
Join Rangers at Fort Washington Park in talking about Fort Washington's long history.
Have you ever visited but have never taken the tour? Now the tour comes to you!
In these bite sized 15 minute Fort Talks, rangers will explain parts of Fort Washington's history that may be new to some. Rangers will be available to give directions and explain different parts of Fort Washington.
7:30 Artillery Demonstration
Step back in time and watch Union soldiers fire a cannon!
Learn about the process of loading and firing a Civil War era cannon with Fort Washington staff and volunteers. A Ranger will explain each step as its happening. Rangers and volunteers will be available after the demonstration to answer questions.
---------
This demonstration will involve loud noises, similar to that of a firework. Rangers will give a warning to cover your ears, but this program may not be right for people or dogs that are frightened by loud noises.
8:00 Federal City Brass Band
The Federal City Brass Band takes the lawn for an 8:00 p.m.performance, filling the bluff above the river with period music. Immerse yourself in the period accurate sounds that make the fort come alive. Fantastic live music for those perched up to watch the fireworks over Mount Vernon.
9:00 Fireworks over Mount Vernon
Visitors can then enjoy the Mount Vernon fireworks display across the river beginning around 9:00 p.m., a scenic and less‑crowded alternative to downtown celebrations.
