For 4th and 5th Grade Students
To celebrate George Washington’s birthday, the National Park Service is hosting the 2021 George Washington Art Contest at Fort Necessity National Battlefield.
George Washington was a major figure at Fort Necessity and throughout the French and Indian War. The purpose of the contest is to encourage children to learn about George Washington and our nation’s history.
Prizes, including $50 and $25 gift certificates, patches and pins will be awarded to the winners at an award ceremony on February 20, 2021. Attendance at the award ceremony is not required to receive a prize. The format and date of the award ceremony may change in response to COVID-19 health advisories in effect. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place in each category in each grade. Judges may also select entries for Honorable Mention and Special Merit awards. In addition, each school that submits at least 15 entries will have a school first place winner. Refer to the Rules, Deadlines, Award and General Information for details.
Awards are based on artistic merit, historical accuracy, and originality. Here are some resources to help with historic accuracy.
