Summer Living History Events

Summertime is living history time at Fort Larned. Staff and volunteers help bring the fort back to life, taking you to a time when the fort was an active military post on the wild and dangerous Kansas frontier. Although we have three major living history events throughout the summer, you can often find the blacksmith working in his shop, or an officers' wife in her quarters on most weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day Weekend. All our scheduled living history events offer special programs, demonstrations and talks throughout the weekend. Check back closer to the time of the event your interested in for the schedule of programs.

Memorial Day Weekend, May 25, 26 & 27, 2024

Each Memorial Day Weekend we start off our summer season with the largest living history event in western Kansas. Volunteers come from as far away as Texas and Colorado to help us bring the fort to life after it's "long winter sleep".

Independence Day, July 4, 2024

On the Fourth of July you can celebrate our nation's birthday by exploring our nation's history.

Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 31, Sept. 1 & 2, 2024

Labor Day Weekend marks the end of our summer season activities. Volunteer re-enactors and staff bring the fort back to life to round out the season.
