Fort Larned National Historic Site's self-guided Junior Ranger program is for kids 6 years and older. The program introduces children to the stories of Fort Larned and helps them understand how they can help preserve the park - and the past - for future generations. Through the activities children learn a little about the history of Fort Larned and the Santa Fe Trail, find out about every day life at the fort, and a get a look at Plains Indian culture. Just ask the ranger at the desk for the activity booklet when you get here, or download a copy before you arrive. Once you're finished and have your book reviewed by a ranger, you'll get an official Fort Larned Junior Ranger badge! The wooden badges are modeled after the badges worn by National Park Service rangers and feature the entrance sign silhouette of a US Cavalry soldier. |
