Copy of Remarks on Monthly return of Co “A”, 10th U.S. Cavalry for the month of April 1867 The company left Fort Leavenworth, KS destined for Fort Larned, KS April 2nd 1867. Arrived at Fort Riley April 11th having marched 120 miles. Left Fort Riley April 15th marched 85 miles and arrived at Fort Harker Kans. April 22 Camped on Little Smokey River opposite the old Post. On the evening of the 23rd a party of Indians or horse thieves made an attack on the guards posted near the horses several shots were fired at them and they soon left. It was apparently their intention to steal some of the animals but they were unsuccessful. Left Fort Harker April 26th escorted a train of wagons containing supplies to Fort Hays, Ks, a distance of 59 miles arriving on the evening of the 28th. Left Fort Hays, Kans. April 29th marched about 50 miles arriving at Fort Larned, Ks. April 30th. The whole distance marched during the month was about 325 miles. Nicholas Nolan Capt. 10th U.S. Cav. Comp. A |
