 (Fort Laramie, WY) On Saturday, December 9, 2023, Fort Laramie National Historic Site will host the annual “Christmas on the Frontier” program. This program will highlight the holiday spirit of the 19th century on the grounds of this world-recognized historic site! Festivities begin at 1:00 p.m. and will conclude at 4:00 p.m. The location of the program will be in the 1874 Cavalry Barracks Mess Hall. At 4:00 p.m., Casey Osback, Chief of Interpretation & Visitor Services, will be available to guide visitors through the historic buildings and park grounds. Many of the buildings will have lanterns in the windows to celebrate the holiday spirit!  Fort Laramie National Historic Site will come alive as park staff and volunteers present a weekend of living history programs, demonstrations and an infantry camp along the Laramie River on August 12th and 13th, 2023. Festivities begin at 1:00 p.m. and will conclude at 3:00 p.m.  A Cultural Heritage Shared Through Dance and Song  FORT LARAMIE, WYO., August 8, 2022 – Visit Fort Laramie National Historic Site during the weekend of August 12-14, 2022, for the annual special event Western Encounters. This year’s theme is “The Famous and the Faceless” and will feature programs by professional living historians Marla Matkin and Kris Swanson, music by bagpiper Marti Mace, a reading and book signing by author Brian Carroll, and an open-air encampment of the 1870s. Special programs will be held throughout the day between 9 am and 5 pm and the living history area will be open to the public from 8 am to 7 pm.  FORT LARAMIE, WYO., July 28, 2022 – Due to unforeseen circumstances, folk singer Hank Cramer has had to cancel his performances during “Fort Laramie After Dark.” His 2:30 pm and 6:30 pm concerts will be replaced by ranger programs for the special event.  FORT LARAMIE, WYO., July 18, 2022 – On Saturday July 30, Fort Laramie National Historic Site will host Fort Laramie After Dark.  FORT LARAMIE, WYO., June 27, 2022 – Fort Laramie National Historic Site will celebrate Independence Day with an “Old-Fashioned Fourth” on July 4, 2022. The fort will host a full day of special activities from the 9:30 am flag-raising through retreat of the national colors at 4:00 pm. Highlights include children’s activities, performances, and exhibits of artifacts from the park’s collections.  Join Fort Laramie National Historic Site on August 14-15, 2021, for a special event entitled Western Encounters. Fort Laramie NHS preserves many stories of the past and present which reflect a diverse cultural identity. For this special event Fort Laramie NHS brings together some of the foremost Living Historians of the West to present programs of the diverse nature of Western culture and communication.
