Dock Closure and Limited Services for 2026: Due to damage sustained from winter ice, the Talisman-Barrett Beach dock in Fire Island National Seashore is closed to all public use. The National Park Service (NPS) anticipates the dock will be closed through the busy summer season and there is no timeline for restoration of public access to the dock. NPS staff are assessing the extent of the damage and evaluating options for repair or replacement of the dock.

Boaters planning to visit the Talisman–Barrett Beach location should plan to anchor in the bay to access the area. Boaters should be aware that the water depth in the vicinity of the Talisman dock is extremely shallow, and caution is advised in the area. No temporary floating dock will be installed.

Due to the dock’s damage, public restroom facilities at Talisman-Barrett Beach will be limited and areas of the site will be restricted for safety. Visitors MUST pack out all trash and personal belongings.

The Barrett Beach/Talisman area is a boater's paradise located near the center of Fire Island National Seashore, across the Great South Bay from Bayport and Sayville on Long Island. At this time, this National Park Service site is only accessible by private boat and on foot, or by charter ferry service from Patchogue or Sayville.

Barrett Beach/Talisman offers a dock for boaters to load and unload only, a boardwalk trail leading across the island to the ocean beach, restrooms, and a picnic area.
