Mammoth Hot Springs

The Mammoth area shows evidence of thousands of years of hot spring activity. While most of the park’s hydrothermal formations are made of siliceous sinter and geyserite, the terraces at Mammoth are composed of travertine, a rock made up of calcium carbonate.
