RESEARCH AT OLD FAITHFUL
In the early 1990s, researchers lowered a video camera into Old Faithful’s vent. The camera, equipped with a lighting system and temperature monitors was lowered about 45 feet (11 m). At that point it encountered boiling, churning water. The video footage provided the first real glimpse into the geyser’s innards, which in turn, allowed researchers to prepare a diagram of the underground plumbing system.
