Below, listen to a Gulf toadfish recorded at North Nest Key, a small key located in the northeastern part of Florida Bay. Keep in mind that a backcountry permit is required to camp at all backcountry campsites in the park, including North Nest Key. Toadfish are one of only a few fish species that make sounds loud enough for people to hear. Try a round of Name That Tune: Everglades Edition to see if you can distinguish the sounds of a Gulf toadfish from those of an Eastern screech owl. The requested video is no longer available.
