The use of constructed wetlands known as Stormwater Treatment Areas (STAs) has become an integral strategy in Everglades restoration. These impoundment areas serve to help filter surface water before it travels southward, removing excess sediments and nutrients through biological methods. This project examines the relative efficacy of phosphorus (P) accretion in Stormwater Treatment Area 1 West, which borders the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. The study investigates both pre- and post-construction concentrations of P, and examines the influence of submerged and aquatic vegetation, chemical treatment and periodic fluctuations in hydrology.
