Big Cypress National Preserve (BICY) conducts hydrologic monitoring at 20 sites within the preserve boundaries. Six sites were identified as suitable for the installation of fabricated aluminum helicopter landing pads. The sites were chosen following the results of an environmental analysis that examined methods for improving access to remote areas. These helicopter pads were assembled and anchored to the ground using pin piles that contain re-bar and cement. This project meets multiple U.S. Department of the Interior science needs for natural resource management and ecosystem restoration by facilitating access to hydrologic monitoring stations in BICY. |
