In 1987, seagrass beds in Florida Bay began to suffer from massive die-offs. Since that time, a significant research effort was implemented to examine the ecology and water quality of the bay. Numerous results have emerged as a result of this research and were published in the peer-reviewed literature to help improve the credibility of the information. This special issue was initially published to provide the Florida Bay and Florida Keys Feasibility Study with critically needed information on how additional freshwater inflows to the bay will affect salinity and water quality.
