To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site and Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site, along with the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum will host a Human Rights Day Expo on Dec. 10, 2023. Events will begin at 10 a.m. at the Henry A. Wallace Center in Hyde Park. On June 8, the community of Hyde Park will be hosting the launch of a new Eleanor Roosevelt quarter. As part of the U.S. Mint’s American Women Quarters Program, the new quarter celebrates the life and legacy of Eleanor as a first lady, author, civil liberties advocate, and chairperson of the United Nations Human Rights commission. Most forests in eastern United States national parks are at risk due to browsing by overabundant white-tailed deer and crowding by invasive plants, according to a National Park Service (NPS) study published in the journal Ecological Applications.  On June 4, 2021, a treasured instrument returned to Eleanor Roosevelt’s home at Val-Kill, in Hyde Park, New York. Through a generous donation by Maria Gurewitsch Brand and her family, Eleanor Roosevelt’s Steinway baby grand piano is now part of the historic collection of Mrs. Roosevelt’s possessions at Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site. To protect the health of those who live, work and visit our national parks and facilities, and in support of the President’s Executive Order on Protecting the Federal Workforce and Requiring Mask-Wearing, the National Park Service (NPS) today implemented a mask requirement for employees, visitors, partners and contractors.  National Park Service (NPS) Regional Director Gay Vietzke has named Amy Bracewell as the new superintendent of the Home of Franklin Delano Roosevelt National Historic Site, Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site (Val-Kill) and Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site in Hyde Park, New York. She will also oversee management of the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site in Kinderhook, New York. Bracewell will begin her new assignment on September 13, 2020. The National Park Service is announcing modifications to operations to implement the latest guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), and local and state authorities to promote social distancing. From April 1, 2020 to October 31, 2020 the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt, 'Springwood' will be closed to all tours due to interior and exterior construction activities. The National Park Service announced today that the public will be invited to experience all national parks, including the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt NHS, the Eleanor Roosevelt NHS, and Vanderbilt Mansion NHS, without entrance fees, on four days in 2018.  Saturday, May 6th. The day is designed to encourage the community to come and enjoy the park through special events that highlight unique aspects of this National Park.
