A unique opportunity to explore the global impact of Thomas Edison’s death will be available from October 17 through October 30, 2024, at Thomas Edison National Historical Park. The Edison Funeral Flag, which was draped over his coffin during a brief ceremony by West Orange World War I veterans in 1931, will be displayed in the library of the Laboratory Complex, alongside other significant items related to his funeral, including his death mask. Funded by the Great American Outdoors Act, the re-opening of the Black Maria represents the first public access since the mid-1980s, when the building was used to exhibit films. As part of the rehabilitation, new exhibits and interpretive panels were added. Thomas Edison National Historical Park (NHP) is re-opening the public comment period on its proposal of a fee schedule for its electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. A typographical error in our notice to the public in late January reflected a proposed rate for EV charging of $.04 per kWh (kilowatt hour) instead of the actual proposed rate of $.40 per kWh. $.40 kWh is the average cost in our greater area. Thomas Edison National Historical Park (NHP) is proposing to change how its electric vehicle (EV) charging stations operate. If approved, the proposal will add fees for public charging stations, which will generate revenue to pay for electricity and maintenance costs and support new stations throughout the park. Thomas Edison National Historical Park announces Edison's home Glenmont will open for the season on July 1, 2002. New this year, visitors to Glenmont will be able to reserve tickets for specific house tours up to 7 days in advance through Rec.gov. Thomas Edison commemorating the Fourth of July is featured in a series of recently digitized home movies that provide a rare look into the personal life of the inventor and his family. Thomas Edison National Historical Park partnered with the Library of Congress to digitize footage that originally belonged to Edison's son Charles. Beginning on Saturday, March 12, 2022, Thomas Edison National Historical Park will no longer accept cash as a method of payment for entrance fees or the purchase of park passes. Visitors may use a credit or debit card at the park visitor center to pay their entrance fee or they can purchase their entrance passes ahead of their visit using the recreation.gov website or mobile app. Thomas Edison National Historical Park announces the release of 2,400 historic Edison disc sound recordings, digitized and made available online in cooperation with the University of California, Santa Barbara Library Special Research Collections on their Discography of American Historical Recordings website at adp.library.ucsb.edu. Beginning on Thursday, January 6, 2022, the Thomas Edison Laboratory Complex, Glenmont Mansion and Grounds will be closed to the public for the winter season and will reopen on Saturday, March 12, 2022.
