Teacher WorkshopsA variety of accredited teacher trainings are available through the Murie Science and Learning Center. Professional development credit is provided through the University of Alaska. Scholarships for teachers to attend MSLC field courses are available annually, with applications generally due in late January. Most teacher field courses and workshops are coordinated by Alaska Geographic and are based from the MSLC field camp in Denali. The field camp is situated along the Teklanika River and makes an excellent launching point for Denali exploration.

During a 2014 field course, PolarTREC instructor Bruce Taterka taught educators how to take complex science, like climate change research, and adapt it into a high school-appropriate lesson. PolarTREC (Teachers and Researchers Exploring and Collaborating) is a National Science Foundation-funded program in which K-12 teachers spend 3-6 weeks participating in hands-on field research experiences in the polar regions. Learn more about PolarTREC at www.polartrec.com Teacher-Ranger-Teacher ProgramThe nationwide Teacher-Ranger-Teacher (TRT) program program provides unique professional development opportunities for teachers to implement major education projects at national parks. A central goal of the TRT program is fostering collaborative relationships between national parks and local education communities. While Denali does not currently participate in the TRT program, we encourage teachers to explore opportunities at other national parks. |
