The road opening is going along smoothly. We finally found some snow west of Toklat. There are 6 to 8 foot drifts heading up Highway Pass and there appears to be more snow in general.
We are still working on ice at Mile 16. So far the steam crews are able to keep all running water off the road, which will help it dry out nicely.
The crews are far enough west that most visitors won't encounter equipment on an outing up the road. However, you should always be aware of the possibility of equipment coming back to work on an ice patch or to replow should it snow again. Therefore, hikers and cyclists should keep an eye out for machinery.
Thanks for your cooperation and enjoy these nice days.
