SRO Update for April 7, 2018

April 07, 2018 Posted by: Riley Tingue, Road Crew Supervisor
Current Plow Crew Work Locations: Ghiglione Bridge. We hope to make it to East Fork bridge by the end of the day but the amount of snow will determine our westward progress .

Steam Crew Locations: No ice and its a good thing since the steam boiler is kaput for the season.

Snow Depths: 4 feet across the road and 12 foot drifts

Aufeis Depths: Zero

Road Open to Public Traffic: Savage Cabin gate (~ Mile 14)

Equipment Status: The boiler has been removed from the van and will be taken care of this summer. The D7R bulldozer is down with a bad injector and was left behind at Tattler Creek. The military bulldozer was brought in to service to assist until the other is up and running.

Current weather forecast

Current Weather at HQ: 5 above with a potential high of 40 later on.

Wildlife Sightings: A Lynx in Hogan creek

Notes/Observations/Comments: We will not be making it to Toklat by April 10. Our new target date is the 13th but we might fall short of that as the days get warmer and the snow gets heavier. It's been awhile since we've had a challenging SRO and many of us have gotten used to having the road open by mid to late April. That will not be the case at this current pace. With the warmer temps in the forecast and the amount of snow still waiting to melt, there will be damage to the road in various forms.
