The road crew reached Pretty Rocks (Mile 45.4) on Sunday evening, and have now made it as far west as they'll be plowing this year due to the Pretty Rocks Landslide. Snow accumulation encountered along the road this year continued to be considerably less than in previous years.
Due to this week's new snow and wind, the road has now drifted closed again around Primrose (Mile 17) and other areas. Road crews are continuously backtracking, reopening drifted locations, and performing cleanup of pullouts and rest areas. Spring road access for the public will be dependent on weather (new snowfall, wind events, and snow drifting) and the ability of the road to dry out. We are hopeful that the weather will turn in our favor in the coming weeks!
As the crews continue to clean up and clear drifted snow, be aware of heavy equipment operating everywhere along the park road. Remember to make eye contact with equipment operators before approaching within 100 feet of equipment.
