A free permit is required for overnight trips into the Craters of the Moon Wilderness. A permit is also required for day-use visits into the north end of the park. These can be obtained at the visitor center during business hours. These permits enable the National Park Service to monitor how many people are using these areas, to inform visitors of regulations, and to make sure that they return safely. Wilderness Regulations:
