Smoke at Crater Lake

Occasionally, during the fire season (July, August, September) smoke may move over the park from fires hundreds of miles away in Oregon or California. The photograph above shows the impact smoke can have on the visibility of the lake.To view the current visibility of the lake visit the Lake Webcam.

Real time recordings of the AQI (air quality index) from the air quality sensors at Mazama Village (the campground area) and park headquarters are displayed on the air quality webpage. Information from the AQ sensor in Rim Village is found on an external site at AirNow.
