Crater Lake National Park is pleased to announce the reopening of the road to Rim Village. Since December 25, storms have dropped more than 66 inches of snow, measured at the headquarters area of the park. Due to the heavy snowfall, the road to Rim Village for lake viewing was temporarily closed.

During major winter storms, plow drivers focus first on clearing snow from Hwy 62 into the park and then turn their attention to clearing the road to Rim Village. As a result, there are periods when the road to the Rim is temporarily closed for a day or more. The amount of snow brought by recent storms raised a hazard in avalanche chutes on the road to the Rim. After avalanche testing was completed, ranger gave the go-ahead to begin plowing this route.

Crater Lake National Park is open 365 days a year. The visitor center at park headquarters is open daily during the winter from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. For the most recent information on road status in Crater Lake National Park, please call 541-594-3100 or see www.nps.gov/crla.
