Render Properties

Choose this option from the Custom Element menu to select a mode for rendering Custom Element data. Use Current Record and One Record (options 1 and 4) to return or modify a single record.

Use options 2 and 3 to reuse existing content and render multiple records. Each of these configurations uses a similar workflow, with options to limit the number of records returned.

Selections here determine which options display in the Element menu for this Custom Element, as described in Selecting Rendering Mode.

Current Record - Displays the Edit Data option in the Element menu to enable authors to edit the last data item entered for this instance on this page. Use this option if you want to display the current record only (this is common for a local Custom Element on the page on which it is entered). Optionally select Show New Data to give authors the option to replace existing data with new data.
One or More Records - Based on Filter (Content Reuse): This configuration allows you to dynamically render multiple records from this Custom Element no matter where in the site they were added. If you choose to render results dynamically, the Element menu displays the Edit Filter option for setting Dynamic Filter criteria. This render mode gives you additional options for displaying records as described below.
One or More Records - Manually Selected (Content Reuse): allows you to select one or more existing records to be displayed for this Element type, and to order them through a drag-and-drop interface. If you choose to manually select data for rendering you will have filtering, selection, and editing options. Note: Using this option for Global Custom Elements automatically enables the Append Data option in the Element menu, which allows contributors to quickly add or create content of the same type.
One Record - Based on URL (Developer Use): is an option used mostly by developers to render a specific custom element record based on that record's unique ID, which is passed to the page containing the Custom Element as a URL parameter, as shown in the dialog example. Use this option, typically with a render handler, to specify viewing pages for Element data without having to separately set the viewing page through Manage Elements - Viewing Page and Search Properties. Click Save to use this method for retrieving and rendering records.

Record Limit

Displays when you choose to render one or more records dynamically or manually.

Choose Next to choose records or apply filters.
