You can change some of the properties of a locked imported object, including its name and description, without breaking the connection to its "source" object. However, you cannot change a locked object's core definition. For example, for an imported Custom Element, you can change Element name, description, and data browser properties, but you can not change its field definitions.
You may view locked Element properties, but you cannot edit them.
