Colorado National Monument Public Health Update

Monument Operations

Where it is possible to adhere to the latest federal, state, and local health guidance, the following areas are accessible to the public, including:

  • Rim Rock Drive and overlooks along the road
  • All hiking trails.
  • Saddlehorn Visitor Center – Open 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily
  • Saddlehorn Campground: As of November 29th, 2021, Loops A is open on a first come, first serve basis. Loops B & C are closed for the season.
  • Devil’s Kitchen Picnic Area and Parking – The Devil’s Kitchen Picnic area is open. Flush toilet restrooms are closed for the winter. A port-a-john is available.
  • Saddlehorn Picnic Area. Flush toilet restrooms are closed for the winter. A port-a-john is available.

As of July 28, 2021, masks are required in all federal buildings and in congested areas, such as busy trails or overlooks. This mask mandate may differ from county requirements.

How can you recreate responsibly?

  • Maintain 6 feet distance between yourself and others on trails and at overlooks.
  • Park only in designated areas, if a trailhead or overlook is full choose a different trail or overlook.
  • Be mindful of high-touch surfaces such as railings and toilets. Bring hand sanitizer.
  • Refrain from high-risk activities to save first responders for others
  • Follow Leave No Trace Seven Principles
  • Follow all regular regulations, such as no dogs on trails and driving at or below the speed limit.

Colorado National Monument is focused on ensuring employees, their families, volunteers, and visitors are safe by following the most current guidance from the CDC, and other federal, state, and local health authorities.
