Youngsholm Restoration

On October 31, 2021, the Young family home closed for an extensive renovation. This album features photos from the renovation process. The home was built in the 1830s and purchased by the Young family in 1907 and affectionately nicknamed, “Youngsholm”. The Young Family home now serves as the visitor center for the Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument.

On Saturday, March 12th, the park was happy to bring back the annual gathering to celebrate the birth of General Charles Young. Several dignitaries were on hand to participate, including keynote speaker General Robert Crear. The event took place at the National Afro-American Museum & Cultural Center (NAAMCC) in Wilberforce, Ohio. Special thanks to the NAAMCC for hosting this special event while the General Charles Young home is closed for extensive renovations.

On Saturday, January 8th, 2022, the park honored the legacy and life of Colonel Charles Young with several guest speakers addressing guests, including the keynote speaker, Lt. General Xavier T. Brunson of the U.S. Army.

On Wednesday, October 27th, 2021, two Ohio Army National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters arrived at the park and took part in a training exercise for Central State University ROTC cadets. The cadets also received insight and information about future opportunities in Army aviation. Park staff were on-hand to observe and assist with special guests who arrived to observe the day's event.

Action Art in the Park 2020

Mr. Desmond Graham visited the park and facilitated a program for park staff to put their thoughts onto canvass. This team building activity used atypical methods of delivering paint to canvass, which helped staff bring out their inner, deeper ideas and thoughts. What resulted was several works of art that mimic staff's true identity.
