Volunteer Opportunities

Visitor Services:
If you enjoy talking to people of all ages, then helping at the visitor center information desk or assisting with interpretation could be for you.

The Information Desk Assistant duties include greeting visitors, answering questions concerning the Memorial and surrounding area, selling bookstore items, stocking and arranging brochures and sales items, and maintaining and updating information files. You will operate a cash register and credit card machine, handle money, and welcome visitors to our site.

Good oral communication skills and the desire to interact with visitors are needed to be an Interpretive Assistant. You will participate in planning, researching, and presenting interpretive programs, designing bulletin boards and other visual materials, and/or leading cave tours.

The VIP Coordinator Assistant provides assistance training new volunteers, files monthly volunteer expense sheets and calendars, tracks volunteer hours, compiles annual statistics, orders volunteer supplies, and assists with the preparation and distribution of the volunteer newsletter.

Natural Resources:
If you enjoy working outdoors and want to learn more about the flora and fauna of the Memorial, there are many opportunities available. Help maintain remote cameras that photograph wildlife, identify and eradicate exotic weeds, survey for birds, bats, or agaves, and input data to various databases.

If you have special skills in carpentry, mechanical repairs, or plumbing, you may be interested in assisting the maintenance staff. Other maintenance duties may include routine cleaning of park buildings and restrooms, emptying trash cans, picking-up litter, painting, trimming trees, performing minor construction and repairs, and doing trail work.

Administration:
If you have office experience and the ability to operate standard office equipment, you may be interested in volunteering in administration. Administrative duties may include filing, word processing, answering telephones, sorting mail, photocopying, maintaining office supplies, and updating manuals.
