It is your responsibility to be familiar with all firearm regulations before entering Chamizal National Memorial.
As of February 22, 2010, the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009 allows people who can legally possess firearms under applicable federal, state, and local laws, to legally possess firearms in Chamizal National Memorial. Specifically, Section 512(b) of the law states:
(1) the individual is not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing the firearm;and (2) the possession of the firearm is in compliance with the law of the State in which the unit of the National Park System or the National Wildlife Refuge System is located.
Firearm possession in Chamizal National Memorial must be in accordance with federal and state laws. Information provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety is one place to find information about state laws including the open carry provisions effective January 1, 2016.
Federal law prohibits the possession of firearms in federal buildings. The following places at Chamizal National Memorial are considered buildings:
