Serving as a cultural center dedicated to fostering national friendship, understanding and trust, Chamizal National Memorial's programs and urban landscape provided opportunities for people of Mexico and the United States to better understand and appreciate each other's diverse cultures and the many aspects of life that transcend nationality. The memorial strives to provide park visitors with ample opportunities to make meaningful connections to the park's resources and history through the use of interpretive and education programs as well as through the visual and performing arts. Chamizal National Memorial is home to the Franklin G. Smith Gallery. This gallery frequently showcases local artists and exhibitions about the people, culture, and history of the US-Mexico border. As you browse through the Cultural Center, you will also find paintings, murals, and sculptures. These objects, many of which are loaned to the park by local artists, provide a perspective into the history and culture of this place. One of the first things you may notice as you drive onto the park grounds is Nuestra Herencia, the large mural painted on three walls of the building next to the Cultural Center. |
