Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site and the Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara are pleased to announce the 2014 Carl Sandburg Writer-in-Residence, Adam Bresson. The writer for 2014 is a poet.

Mr. Bresson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and moved to Southern California in 1988, living in Los Angeles for the past 20 years. He appreciates the benefit of having spent time growing up on both coasts and that unique perspective is reflected in his writing--old and new, sun and snow, all seasons and always summer. Having written for over 25 years, he explores many themes including love, confusion, nature, history and cities. His writing drops you into the immediacy of what's happening now, mixing all of the senses' feedback and experimental pacing to convey strong storytelling that unearths new meanings. As a fellow poet once said of Adam's work, "I think I know that exact woman you wrote about and could smell her perfume."

Adam Bresson released his first book of selected poems in February 2014 "Person, Place or Thing." His writing has appeared in National Lampoon Magazine, InterBang, Poetic Diversity and several independent poetry collections including "Green Room Confessionals," "Everything About You Is Beautiful" and "After Words." He hosted a long-running poetry reading called ReallyBIGShow in Los Angeles, CA where he enhanced performances with podcasts, videos and publications. He organized and put on two traveling caravans of poets for the ReallyBIGShow West and Weekend tours where writers performed in regional venues across California, Nevada and Arizona. Adam Bresson lives in Los Angeles, CA with his wife and daughter where he works in computers, writes and participates in civic activism.

A welcoming reception in Mr. Bresson's honor will be held on Friday, March 28 at the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce, at the corner of Kanuga and Church in Hendersonville, NC from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. He will share a few selections of his poetry beginning at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and visitors will have an opportunity to visit with and learn more about him. The public is welcomed.

Mr. Bresson will also appear at the Carl Sandburg Student Poetry Contest Celebration on Friday, April 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Blue Ridge Community College, Patton Building Room 150. The public is welcomed to join in the recognition of the students as they recite their winning poems.
