Natural and spoil island campsites provide a variety of access and capacity options to those visitors who have their own boat, canoe or kayak. Reservations and a permit are required for island campsites. Canoe rentals are available for sites 1-5. Canoes are reserved by calling [phone], after you have made your camping reservation. Sites 6-14 may only be reached with a personal boat, canoe or kayak.

Apollo Beach – I-95 exit 249 - then proceed east and follow the signs. This is the northern access of Canaveral National Seashore, located on Fla A1A at the southern-most end in New Smyrna Beach.

Glass containers are not allowed
All litter must be removed from the Seashore and place in proper trash receptacles
Visitors must obey the park speed limits and all park regulations
Fireworks are not allowed within park boundaries
- Pets are not allowed on the beach at Canaveral National Seashore
- The use of Personal Watercraft (PWC)(example: Jet Skis) is prohibited by Federal Regulation
- Fishing limits are based on applicable Florida State laws
- Metal detectors are prohibited by Federal Regulation
- All plant and animal species are protected within Canaveral National Seashore
- When authorized, containerized fires are allowed only in designated areas
- Drink responsibly and follow all state laws on alcohol consumption.

Reservations

Make a reservation and print your permit using www.Recreation.gov or by calling [phone]. You may reserve your campsite up to 6 months prior to the camping date or up to the first day you wish to camp, if site is available. Only one permit will be issues per site, per night. All information collected on the camping permit is for use by Canaveral National Seashore to ensure that you have a safe and fun backcountry experience. You must be 18 years of age to make a reservation. Camping is permitted only at designated sites. Please note that violations of these regulations may result in fines. You must print your permit. If you are renting a canoe, bring it with you to the Apollo Visitor Center before 4:00 PM the day of check in.

Accessibility Information

ADA Information - No facilities or utilities exist at any of the campsites within Canaveral National Seashore. Leave No Trace camping ethics are the rule. There is no vehicle camping at the park. Camping or biodegradable toilet paper is recommended. We recommend having a cell phone at your disposal while camping in the park. Emergencies should be reported by dialing 911.

Backcountry Camping on the Mosquito Lagoon Islands

For visitors wishing to backcountry camp in the seashore, primitive camping is available on designated islands throughout the Intracoastal Waterway and Mosquito Lagoon. These campsites are available by reservation only and require a permit. You may reserve campsites for $25 per night and up to six months in advance. RV or vehicle camping is not permitted within the seashore.

Fourteen island campsites are available for reservation and include both natural island and spoil island campsites. All fourteen island campsites are accessible by campers with their own watercraft, such as a motor boat, kayak, or canoe. Canoe rentals are available (weather permitting) for campsites #1 - #5 only. Canoe rentals are $25 per night for individuals 18 years and older. Canoe capacity is two people per canoe, plus gear. For canoe rentals, please inquire at the Apollo Beach Visitor Center or call [phone] for more information. If you are interested in making a camp site reservation please go to Recreation.gov.

 

Important Rules and Regulations for Pemit Holders for Backcountry Island Camping

• Canoe Rentals: Canoe rentals are available (weather permitting) for campsites #1-#5 only. Canoe rentals are $25 per night and available to individuals 18 years and older. Canoe capacity is two adults per canoe, plus gear. For canoe rentals, please inquire at the Apollo Beach Visitor Center or call [phone] for more information.
• You may print your permit 14 days before your reservation date and cannont make changes to the permit once you have printed it. 
• Check-in time is 11:00am; check-out time is 11:00 am.
• Plan your trip in advance. Pay special attention to travel routes along the waterways and weather forecasts. Some waterways are pretty shallow.
• Be Prepared: Be sure your vessel is fuled, equipped for emergenciess, and that all passengers are issued the appropriate personal flotation devices. Insect repeallant is highly recommended during the warmer months. Always share your intended itinerary with a friend or family other than those in your party. 
• Practice "Leave-No-Trace." Biodegradable toilet paper is available for $1.99 at the Visitor Center.
• Overnight Parking: Visitor parking is avialable both in and nearby the park. During the weekends, parking at the Apollo Beach Visitor Center is limited and typically fills by early morning. Do not leave valuables in your vehicle. Contact the park with questions. 
• Cell Phone: We recommend having a cell phone at your disposal while camping in the park. Emergencies should be reported by dialing 911.
• Firewood: Firewood is not available at the campsites. Please purchase firewood locally and bring it with you and/or bring your own cook stove. Ve aware of special restrictions concerning open fires. As a ranger about the current fire danger conditions upon arrival. 
• Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in somestates. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more. 
• You must print out enough copies of your permit to have one with you on the island for your group, and one on the dashboard in each vehicle associated with your group. This Backcountry Camping permit does not included the entrance fee to the park.
