We are proud of our park partnerships that continue to flourish and grow within the national seashore. A mix of government, non-profit organizations, and institutional and for-profit groups work together to protect and research park resources, and provide visitor services and programs, enhancing the ability of the National Park Service to carry out its mission. There are several park partner groups that operate through partnership arrangements, as well as formal fundraising agreements. Partner OrganizationsSince 1978, Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore, a not-for-profit charitable organization (501 c 3), has supported the National Seashore, which operates under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service by raising funds for specific projects. FCCNS was incorporated in Massachusetts on March 1, 1978 as a tax-exempt organization under section 501©(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions are tax exempt as provided by law. Eastern National, founded in 1947, is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit cooperating association, that promotes the public’s understanding and support of America’s national parks and other public trust partners by providing quality educational experiences, products, and services. The Herring River Restoration project will revive 1,100 acres of tidal salt marsh that was highly productive before the dike at Chequessett Neck Road, installed in 1909, impeded the tidal flow, decimated the herring run, and caused general ecological degradation. The estuary restoration is the largest project of its kind in the Northeast United States. Cape Cod Modern House Trust was founded to collect, archive, and share documentation of the outer Cape’s exceptional modern architecture, restore a group of important, endangered modern houses, and to relaunch them as platforms for new creative work. The Highland House Museum was established in 1967 by the Truro Historical Society when CCNS was created. Our mission is to inspire all people to explore, discover and experience the rich heritage of Truro and the Outer Cape from valued artifacts, living history exhibits, and ongoing community interactions that emphasize their influence on society today. N.E.E.D. Our living space is a former Coast Guard Station with some grand views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Pamet River valley. Our classroom consists of the beaches, dunes, woods, marshes, bogs, swamps, and ponds of the National Seashore. Since 1999, the Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod program has engaged service-minded adults to fulfill a variety of environmental and disaster preparedness needs across Cape Cod. Each year we recruit, train, and host 20 national service members, who make an 11-month full-time volunteer commitment to Cape Cod. Our program is dedicated to bringing in skilled young professionals to serve on capacity building projects for municipal governments and non-profit organizations across all 15 towns of the Cape. Our focus areas include natural resource management, disaster preparedness and response, environmental education, and volunteer engagement. The Peaked Hill Trust is a 501©3 membership organization, incorporated in 1986 with the mission of protecting, maintaining, and preserving for use, the dune shacks of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Central to PHT’s mission, is providing time and space within the dune colony to artists and creative visionaries, as well as the community-at-large, predicated on the belief that low-impact living in the unique beauty and solitude of the Outer Banks of Cape Cod is of intrinsic value to all people. The Peaked Hill Trust manages five shacks that are available for use by lottery to its membership, and through residencies in the arts and sciences. The Outer Cape Artists in Residence Consortium was founded in 1995 in response to a request by the Cape Cod National Seashore (Seashore) to establish a residency program in one of its historic dune shacks at the edge of the Atlantic “back shore” in Provincetown. It offers the artist the creative stimulation that isolation and solitude provide. In the summer of 1995, OCARC was awarded the Margo-Gelb shack by the Seashore, with the first residencies being held in 1996.
