PLAN YOUR VISIT TO THE NAVAJO NATION

We hope you have a safe and memorable visit to Canyon de Chelly National Monument! The park is located in Chinle, Arizona, and is entirely on Navajo tribal lands with families living in the canyon. While visiting the Navajo Nation, please remember we observe Daylight Savings Time from March to November.

Know before you go. Make sure to check the weather forecast when visiting these areas. Be prepared as you travel - take plenty of drinking water, dress in layers, and notify others of your plans. Emergency services and cell phone services are limited in remote areas.

Please consider visiting these areas nearby - Hubbell Trading Post NHS, Navajo NM, Petrified Forest NP and Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park.

TRIP PLANNING

There is NO entrance fee. The park features a Welcome Center, two rim drives with ten overlooks and a public trail that you can visit on your own. The White House Trail begins at the White House Overlook. The overlooks and trail are available to visit on your own.

The Navajo Nation also manages the Cottonwood Campground which requires a fee. The campground is about a mile from the Welcome Center. Private companies offer tours by vehicle, horseback or hiking along the bottom of the canyon. The town of Chinle is 2 miles from the park and offers a grocery store, post office, hardware store, bank, laundromat, gas stations, convenience stores, and fast food places. There are also 3 motels with dining and gift shops. Our Planning Your Visit guide can be mailed upon request.

Translations of the park brochure in French, German and Spanish are also available at the Welcome Center or can be mailed upon request.
