CANYON DE CHELLY, AZ – The National Park Service (NPS) and the Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation (NNPR) are pleased to announce that the White House Overlook and Trail at Canyon de Chelly National Monument will reopen for public use on Friday, August 2, 2024. The trail is the only public trail in the park and is heavily used by both visitors and local community members. The area was closed in March 2020 after a rash of vehicle break-ins.
The NPS and NNPR worked together in preparation to reopen the area. Daily operations at White House Overlook and Trail will be provided by Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation with NNPR staff on site to help visitors and answer questions. This summer, no fees will be collected, and the area will be open as follows:
- Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday
- From August 2 to September 29, 2024;
- Gates open 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; and
- With waterless restrooms available.
For more information, visitors are encouraged to contact the Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation at 928-674-2106 or visit www.navajonationparks.org.
