Joyce Slater, storyteller extraordinaire, will take the stage at this year's Storytelling Festival. For more than a decade, Ms. Slater has been delighting audiences of all ages. As a longtime storyteller, performer and visual artist, she shares stories about family and community that reach beyond the boundaries of race, gender, and religion. She often surprises audiences with guest appearances by puppets, drums, and even an occasional origami demonstration.

Ms. Slater is the director of River and Prairie Storyweavers, a storytelling guild in Kansas City. She has served as the artistic director of KC Storytelling Celebration, a storytelling festival sponsored by Maple Woods Community College, since 2000. She has also won the Oracle Award for exemplary leadership and service and significant contributions to the community through storytelling.
