The 23rd Annual "Haunting in the Hills" Storytelling Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2015. Make plans now to join thousands of folks who will come to the Bandy Creek field and enjoy the beautiful Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area for a fun-filled day of stories, music, crafts and more. Craft classes and concerts are free and open to the public.

Featured story tellers for 2015 are Carrie Sue Ayvar, Megan Hicks, Donna Washington, Dan Keding, and "Bronco" Don Britton. Carrie Sue Ayvar connects people, languages, and cultures through engaging spoken word performances.

Megan Hicks is an award-winning performer who captivates audiences of all ages and from all walks of life. "Her performance and presentation draw praises wherever she goes, and she takes her love of whimsy with her as she creates new stories and adaptations, and discovers new purposes for the "found objects" that continue to inspire her ingenuity."

Donna Washington has performed at thousands of schools and libraries and numerous storytelling festivals throughout the country. She has also been featured at numerous storytelling festivals including the 2004 National Storytelling Festival.

Dan Keding, story teller of international acclaim, is well known for his telling of traditional world folktales, personal narratives of his boyhood in Chicago, ghost stories and dark tales, and superbly crafted original pieces.

"Bronco" Don Britton, Cowboy Poet, is an avid horseman and has spent a lifetime listening to his "elders and his betters" tell stories of their experiences with livestock. With their inspiration, he has added his own versions of some "interesting moments" spent in the pursuits of horsemanship. His stories and poems are all delivered in the vernacular of the layman.

Each year, thousands of students in area schools get to experience dynamic storytelling programs by world renowned storytellers during festival outreach programs. Local schools will again have an opportunity to see these tellers in action during the week leading up to theevent.

Storytelling predates writing, with the earliest forms of storytelling usually oral combined with gestures and expressions. Stories have been shared in every culture as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation, and instilling moral values.
