Due to the extremely dry conditions currently being experienced, park officials have imposed a ban on open fires in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.

Superintendent Reed Detring announced the ban today, in an effort to lessen the dangers of wild fires in the park. He noted the only exception to the park-wide ban would be in Bandy Creek Campground, Blue Heron Campground, the Station Camp Horse Camp and the Bear Creek Horse Camp. Within those campgrounds, fires will be permitted within the established fire rings.

Superintendent Detring further noted that only after sufficient rainfall has been received would the ban be lifted.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
