Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area will be celebrating National Public Lands Day on Saturday September 28th by authorizing one night of free camping at Alum Ford Campground and free backcountry camping permits.  Other events that will be taking place during the day are the ribbon cutting ceremonies for the official opening of the Kentucky Mountain Bike Trails at 10:00 a.m. EDT and the improved Proctor Ridge Trail at 1:00 p.m. EDT.  National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest, single-day volunteer event in which eight federal agencies as well as other groups partner together to maintain and protect the environment.More information can be found at www.publiclandsday.org.
