Road Conditions

River Road is maintained for high clearance vehicles only. After rains, River Road and Talley Road are extremely muddy and may quickly become impassable to all vehicles. 4-wheel drive may be required. The last mile of the Talley Road (approaching the Rio) is especially rough and may require 4-wheel drive to safely negotiate.

Vegetation

TY-1 and TY-2 have no shade. They are located far from the river with a gravel base.

Views

TY-1 and TY-2 offer expansive desert views with the Chisos and Mariscal Mountain as a backdrop. TY-3/4 are located near the river and provide some shade and river scenery.

River Access

The river can accessed at the end of the road. Boats must be carried a short distance down a bank to the river.

Cautions

Do not cross the river and enter Mexico. Report any contacts with Mexican Nationals to rangers. To minimize the possibility of theft, secure belongings when away from these campsites and while sleeping. Do not leave your property unattended for long periods of time.

Remarks

The primitive and challenging Mariscal Rim Trail begins near the end of the road Talley Road. A trailhead/parking area is located along the east side of the road past TY-2.
