Directions

This campsite is located near the Persimmon Gap Entrance Station, 22 miles north of Panther Junction. The short gravel access road is on the east side of the main park road. It is unmarked, so watch carefully.

Road Conditions

The Nine Point Draw access road is usually accessible to all vehicles. After heavy rains, the road becomes very slick, muddy, and rutted and may require 4-wheel drive.

Vegetation

No shade at this site. The vegetation is sparse creosote and lechuguilla.

Views

Persimmon Gap is visible to the north. There is a great view of Dog Canyon to the east (Nine Point Draw and Bone Spring drain into Dog Canyon after heavy rains). Devil’s Den may be seen as a narrow slot canyon high up to the south of Dog Canyon. The site is hidden from the road by a hill.

Remarks

This is the closest primitive campsite to the Persimmon Gap Visitor Center. There is adequate turnaround space for up to 30' RVs. The site allows good access to hiking in Dog Canyon and the rugged route through Devil’s Den.
