The Chisos Basin Campground is nestled within the heart of the Chisos Basin.

The Chisos Basin Campground is nestled in an open woodland within a scenic mountain basin. Campers enjoy the views of Casa Grande and Emory Peak. The sunset through the nearby "Window" is a Big Bend highlight. Some of the park's most popular trails begin nearby. Elevation: 5,400 feet.

  • Open year-round.
  • Trailers over 20 feet and RV's over 24 feet are not recommended due to the narrow, winding road to the Basin and small campsites at this campground.
    No First-Come First-Served Camping
  • Wood fires and ground fires are NOT allowed anywhere in the park. A charcoal fire in an above-ground grill is allowed; ashes must be packed out. Liquid-fuel stoves are allowed.

Chisos Basin Group Campsites

The group campground is located approximately 1/4 mile away from the main Chisos Basin Campground. There are seven group tent campsites are available for groups of nine to 20 people (size is site dependent). Each site comes with a picnic table, charcoal grill and bear-proof food storage container and some sites come with picnic shelters for shade. All campsites are within easy walking distance to drinking water and toilets. No RVs, trailers, or generators are allowed.
