Imuruk Volcanic Field

Imuruk Volcanic Field

Imuruk volcanic field covers more than 100,000 acres of Bering Land Bridge National Preserve. During the summer, access is by foot or non-motorized vehicle. The best way to reach the lava field is to land a small plane on the nearby tundra or on Imuruk Lake and then walk. Hiking opportunities are numerous across this gently rolling landscape of broadly-domed summits and volcanic cones. The lava field is also a great place to view a variety of lichen species and the caribou that feed on them.
