Nowadays it is hard for us to understand how fragile the new government was. The Whiskey Rebellion was really the first major fight about how the new government should operate and how its economy would move forward. It helped cement a strong national government, as well as the opposition to it. For Albert Gallatin, the Whiskey Rebellion helped propel his burgeoning political career.
