Article 1: Beating the Heat – 2022 Battlefield Land Acquistion Grant Year in Review
The Director’s priority of confronting the global climate crisis, in 2022 the NPS ABPP awarded nearly $14 million in Battlefield Land Acquisition Grants to 11 state and local governments and their nonprofit partners to financially assist with the acquisition and preservation of nearly 1,500 acres of open space at 21 battlefields across the country. Thanks to a Battlefield Land Acquisition Grant from the American Battlefield Protection Program, the City of Chattanooga, Tennessee will preserve over three hundred acres of the 1864 Civil War Chattanooga Battlefield. Along with their partners, the American Battlefield Trust and Reflection Riding nature center, they will ensure the protection of this rich natural and historical resource for generations. Read more
