Top 10 Tips for Visiting César E. Chávez National Monument

  1. The Memorial Garden offers a quiet place to reflect on the life of Cesar Chavez and his wife, Helen, along with the people who gave their lives to advance the cause of improving conditions for farmworkers. Inside the Memorial Garden, visit the gravesites of Cesar and Helen Chavez.
  2. Plan at least one 30-60 minutes to tour the visitor center and enjoy several exhibits.
  3. Check for a brochure outside the Memorial Garden that explains the symbols and features that are found inside, including a stonework version of the Huelga flag.
  4. Download the official National Park Service app to learn about the monument at the height of the farmworker movement as it guides you through features at the monument.
  5. Walk through the monument's Garden of the Southwest to see plants of Cesar's birthplace, Arizona's Sonoran Desert.
  6. Visit the monument's bookstore, or the online bookstore of the monument's partner, the National Chavez Center.
  7. Look for the animals of the monument, even near the visitor center, but please watch from a distance.
