Puma Profiles: P-90
Male
Initial capture date: July 6, 2020
Deceased
Biologists found P-65's den on July 6, 2020, during the "Summer of Kittens." Three kittens were tagged - female P-88 and males P-89 and P-90. P-63 is the likely father since both cats traveled together for three days in March. This may also be P-65's first litter.
P-90 was about 2 years old when he was struck and killed by a car on State Highway 33 in Oak View, just south of Ojai in Ventura County, on Aug. 26, 2022. The young male cat was a trailblazer.
In June 2022, he crossed the 101 Freeway in Camarillo. He crossed flat, agricultural fields and eventually traveled to the Lake Casitas area in Los Padres National Forest. That was his third time succesfully crossing the 101 Freeway.
Soon after dispersing from his mother, P-65, he crossed the 101 at Liberty Canyon, heading north into the Simi Hills on Dec. 11, 2021. The next night, he crossed the 101 again, heading back into the Santa Monica Mountains.
P-90 was the 7th mountain lion in the study to die from road mortality in 2022 and the 5th radio-collared one.
