Partnerships Bring Awareness to River Access Points along the Wood and Pawcatuck Rivers

Establishing an identity as a Wild and Scenic River system can be one of the most rewarding processes after designation. The Wood-Pawcatuck Wild and Scenic Rivers Stewardship Council (Stewardship Council) is working on its identity by installing signs that increase public awareness about designation throughout the watershed. In a coordinated effort with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the Stewardship Council has actively pursued the installation of signage at 16 public access points. These initiatives were highlighted in an article published in the Charlestown Citizens Alliance, along with the outstanding resources of the seven rivers in the Wood-Pawcatuck watershed.
