Musconetcong Wild and Scenic River

The Musconetcong River flows in New Jersey’s Highlands region and drains a 157.6 square-mile watershed. This area of land has been inhabited for more than 13,000 years, making the Musconetcong rich in history and culture. Over the last few years, the removal of dams along the Musconetcong River has allowed for the return of shad - just one of the many success stories within the watershed. It was officially granted the title of Wild and Scenic on December 22, 2006 with designation of 24.2 river miles.
